Wind

Multiple bands are known as Wind. 1. West Coast 60’s inspired German psych rock band. Their first album "Seasons" (1971) is considered to be a little classic in the early days of progressive rock. It features complex epic songs within heavy rock, psych-spaced out proportions. "Morning" (1973) is a catchy collection of almost conventional heavy rocking songs. Without gaining the commercial success, the band split in 1973. The drummer Lucky Schmidt will pursue his career with the band Aera. 2. Wind was started in 1985 by the composer Hanne Haller. The other members of the band at that time were Alexander "Ala" Heiler, Christine von Kutschenbach, Rainer Höglmeier, Willie Jakob, Sami Kalifa and Petra Scheeser. The group has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany three times. The first time was shortly after the formation of the band, in Eurovision 1985. With the song Für alle they finished second, just behind the winning duo Bobbysocks from Norway. In 1987 Wind returned to the contest, performing Lass die Sonne in dein Herz in Brussels, Belgium. Once again they achieved a second place, this time behind Johnny Logan who represented Ireland. Lass die Sonne in dein Herz has since become the band's trademark tune, including welcoming visitors to their official website. Wind entered Eurovision for a third time in 1992 in Malmö, Sweden, with the song Träume sind für alle da. This time they were not as successful, finishing 16th of 23 participants. According to John Kennedy O'Connor in his book The Eurovision Song Contest: The Official History, [1] Wind are the only act to ever finish second in the contest on two occasions.

Trombonist-composer Brian Scarborough Releases 'We Need The Wind,' An Autobiographical Reflection On Rebuilding And Healing As An Artist

Trombonist-composer Brian Scarborough Releases 'We Need The Wind,' An Autobiographical Reflection On Rebuilding And Healing As An Artist

Source: Outside in Music

Brian Scarborough is a standout trombonist who has made a mark for himself both as a performer and composer. With music described as “... simultaneously stimulating and accessible, refreshingly modern and rooted in tradition,” (Chicago Jazz Magazine), Scarborough continues his trend of blending tradition with innovation as he presents his second album as a bandleader, We Need The Wind. Lauded by trombone legend Michael Dease as a recording that “beautifully capture[s]... Scarborough’s attractive tone and vibrant melodic playing,” We Need ...

Backgrounder: Barry Galbraith - Guitar and the Wind

Backgrounder: Barry Galbraith - Guitar and the Wind

Barry Galbraith was one of New York's busiest session jazz guitarists in the 1940s, '50s and '60s. Between 1941 and the late 1970s, he was on 620 recording dates, a staggering total. How many albums did he record as a leader under his name? Just one—Guitar and the Wind, for Decca. What a shame.

His sole album is groovy and gorgeous. Galbraith could swing and his cord voicings and tasty improvised runs were unbeatable. My last post on Galbraith is ...

Some projects can't be planned, they just happen as a lucky coincidence. In the case of Martin Wind's new album Counterpoint it all started with an email he received from a musician in Europe. Wind, who has lived in Teaneck, New Jersey, for 25 years and has made a name for himself as a bassist and composer in New York City, recalls, “He suggested that we record an album together and asked if I could arrange some gigs in New ...

Don Braden: Earth Wind and Wonder, Vol. 2

It has long astonished me that so many jazz musicians choose to ignore the Third Great American Songbook when looking for songs to cover on albums and in performance. Instead, many regularly turn to songs by composers such as Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Rodgers and Hart, and Jimmy Van Heusen. Or they turn to jazz standards by Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and others (do we really need another Satin Doll or Cherokee?). Others have dipped into the well of what ...

All About Jazz is celebrating Kai Winding's birthday today!

Trombonist Kai Christen Winding (pronounced ki-win-ding) was one of the founding fathers of be-bop music and truly one of the finest-ever jazz trombonists. As a sideman to bop’s reigning kings “ Fats Navarro, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Tadd Dameron “ he was more a bridesmaid than a bride. Winding recorded too infrequently as a leader during this period and none of his compositions ever really caught on. Indeed, ...

In the 1970s, Concord recorded many great jazz albums, especially ones by guitarists. Back in 2010, I posted on Barney Kessel's Soaring, which has long been a favorite. Another Concord winner is Herb Ellis and Remo Palmier's Windflower, a perfect album released in 1978. The two guitarists were backed by George Duvivier on bass and Ron Traxler on drums. Elllis was best known as a member of the Oscar Peterson Trio from 1953 to 1958. He also composed Detour Ahead ...
