The Big Easy

The Big Easy are a Midlands based 5-piece jazz/blues band. Comprising; Dave Lines--lead vox, sax, guitar... Carl Sinclair--lead vox, keyboards... Rod Boatswain--lead vox, sax... Steve Sage--bass, percussion... Ed Franklin--drums, percussion.

The popular outfit covers the very best of "good time" jazz, blues and rhythm & blues--from Louis Prima to Van Morrison, Ray Charles to Jamie Cullum. Whilst also composing some pretty smart material of their own. Indeed, they feel comfortable in declaring that they have “something for everyone”.

The in-demand band burn rubber up and down the length and breadth of the UK. Performing at jazz clubs, festivals, parties, functions and events of all shapes and sizes--even a millionaires wedding!

The Big Easy have gone from strength to strength since forming some two years ago and have gained admirers from all corners of the music scene mainly due to their appealing renditions of classic jazz and blues numbers and thoroughly entertaining live shows. Indeed, Big Bear Music were impressed enough to invite them to perform in the Birmingham International Jazz Festival 2006. Whilst also taking in the Coventry Jazz Festival and Town & Country Festival the same year and being featured on CWR radio, Heart fm and Touch fm along the way.

The Big Easy will be stealing time from a busy 2007 work schedule to record a ten track CD of covers and original material. The already in demand CD will go on sale at gigs and will also be available to order from the band’s own web site www.thebigeasyband.com which also features a 3 track ‘live’ demo, photos, gig listing and info etc.

Charitable fella’s as they are - both individually and collectively--they are always keen to offer their services for a good cause. The elderly and disabled along with a local church and hospice have all benefited from their efforts.

Their undoubted skills as vocalists, musicians and arrangers (check out their version of "can’t buy me love" or "mojo" for example) is now taking them into the big league. It is therefore no surprise that The Big Easy are attracting much interest. With such a fast growing reputation they are quite simply becoming a band difficult to ignore. Indeed they are a well sought after unit and already being lined up for a number of top festivals in the spring and summer of 2007.

Talk to most musicians, and they'll generally sound like they are caught amidst a whirlwind of activity. It takes a lot of hustling to make ends meet when you are musician, particularly a musician who plays jazz. So it is altogether appropriate that one of the running threads of the new HBO series 'Treme' is that the character of Antoine Batiste, played by Wendell Pierce, is looking for a gig, or is on the run to get ...

Big Easy's Jazz Therapy

Big Easy's Jazz Therapy

Before closing out the first weekend of the 2006 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bruce Springsteen took a tour. “I think I saw sights I never thought I'd see in an American city," he says Sunday, April 30, after visiting neighborhoods ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. “This is what happens when people play political games with people's lives." It was a sobering comment, but Springsteen's performance was anything but. The Boss was in a party-throwing mood, cranking out two hours ...

CLEARWATER For two New Orleans jazz masters, emotions will lie close to the surface when they perform at this weekend's MarineMax Clearwater Jazz Holiday. On the Saturday before Hurricane Katrina devastated his hometown, jazz vocalist and trumpeter Kermit Ruffins packed a bag, boarded up his house and bar-hopped through all his favorite Crescent City haunts. At 5 a.m. the next day, he and his family were off to Baton Rouge. When he returned home, he found his home in “pretty ...
