Rein Godefroy

Rein Godefroy (Breda, 1982) was raised in a family filled with classical musicians. It was no surprise that he started to play the piano when he was four.

After four years of playing and studying classical piano, Rein got more interested in the jazz genre. After two years of intensive jazz piano lessons with pianist John Reyna, he was accepted at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. There he studied with pianists Rob van Bavel and Juraj Stanik. In 2006 he received his masters degree and graduated with distinction.

Since his graduation Rein played with numerous exiting but very diffent groups like Fullduplexx and the Paul van Kemenade Quintet and he recorded several albums which al got fantastic reviews.

Inspirited by those groups and recordings Rein decided to form his own trio in 2016. He asked two amazing musicians (Pim Dros and Guus Bakker) to join him and they recorded the first album It Will Come in 2016.

This album Is not about showcasing their individual technical skills, but is a collection of song which all have their own storyline.

The album It Will Come is scheduled for release in march 10, 2017 on the label Safe Sound Records.

Drummer Marcel Serierse kicks off ...

Rein Godefroy: It Will Come

Read "It Will Come" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

Dutch pianist Rein Godefroy enters the crowded and talent-filled arena of the jazz piano trio with It Will Come. The music--on a first listen--seems to fit in the the European aesthetic of this form of musical expression with the opener, the disc's title tune, a gently laid down sound. The piano touch is supple, the bass/drums accompaniment rolling in a post-Bill Evans parity, with a lot of pop in the drums. The song is a story that builds momentum, gradually, ...
