GERMAN - AMERICAN GUITARIST PETER KNOLL Winner of GuitarPlayerZen Magazine’s Award (November 2008)... „Peter is a world class player, and even better, he has his own unique style and voice. Something that rarely one finds.“ His improvisational playing is truly inspiring!" Working with greats like Bassist Mark E. Peterson (Cassandra Wilson, Lyle Lovett, Joan Baez) as well as Percussionists Hahlil (Roberta Flack), Gerardo Velez (Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Spyro Gyro) and Mike D. (Beastie Boys). On a rare occasion, he has been performing for German Countess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis. Peter is also known as an acknolwedged guitar teacher. Amongst his students were both children of U2 guitarist “The Edge” and currently the son of former Super Model Helena Christensen. Growing up in Loizersdorf, a small village close to Munich/Germany, Peter started out playing with local bands in his teenage years. Later on he enrolled at the Guitar Institute of Munich and continued his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After graduating in 1995, he went on to live in Berlin/Germany for a number of years. A lucky incident made it happen to receive a Green Card through the lottery and Peter took the chance to move to New York in 2004. He immediately got a job as a show band/solo guitarist for Princess Cruises and has been working for them for 2 1/2 years. Besides working with different artists (Indie Pop-Rock Band „Emme and the Swedes“, NYC Guitar Duo with Kent Thompson, composing music for Multimedia Literary Webzine „Mad Hatter’s Review), he has been playing with his own experimental Solo (improvising along Fritz Lang Silent Movies) and Power Duo/Trio projects (Mark E. Peterson - bass, Andy O’Neill – drums), since coming back to New York in 2007. From September 2011 to May 2012, Peter collaborated with New York based composer of sound installations Michael J Schumacher. Peter also co-leads the Austrian Improvisational Quartett „Conundrum“ with Viennese sax player Clemens Salesny, performing in Germany and Austria. Peter Knoll’s debut album „Certainty Is“ (feat. Bill Mead on drums) has been released in May 2011. http://www.peterknoll.com
