Odin Scherer

Odin Scherer is a Brooklyn, NY based guitarist, composer, improviser, and educator from Katonah, NY. Since moving to NYC in 2017 to attend The New School on scholarship, he has performed at venues including Bar Next Door, Smalls Jazz Club, Williamsburg Music Center, ShapeShifter Lab, Green Lung Studio, Tishman Auditorium at The New School, Julian’s NYC, and WBGO radio station in New Jersey. His diverse research interests include Black American music, folkloric music from around the globe, wildlife and ecosystems, fossils, and Impressionist classical music and visual art. 

Odin graduated with honors from The New School in May of 2021 with a BFA in Jazz Guitar Performance, and was awarded the Alice and John Coltrane award for creative excellence. He studied with Mary Halvorson, Tony Malaby, Miles Okazaki, Patricia Brennan, Andrew Cyrille, Reggie Workman, Craig Weinrib, David Virelles, and many other legendary NYC musicians.

Odin’s debut record with Adam Cordero, “Ashland”, was released on bandcamp on October 2nd, 2020, which features original compositions from both and raised money for the Latino Community Foundation’s California Wildfire Relief Fund. He is also a part of the band Blackwater Irrigation, which had its self-titled debut release in 2022 on all music listening platforms. 

Odin’s plans include a second duo album with Adam Cordero, a release of original MIDI, synth, and guitar music, and a quartet EP of original compositions. He plans to bring all this music to the various venues around NYC and wider. He currently works for The Leadership Program in NYC public schools, teaches private guitar lessons freelance, works in the stock room for Scotch & Soda SoHo, and is an adjunct faculty member at The New School.
