Nicolas Lanctot

Nicolas Lanctôt, a Monteal based musician, was introduced to music at a very young age. Having always had a love for music, he began taking piano lessons at the age of 6, and played trombone during high school. It is however at the age of fifteen that he started learning how to play the guitar and found out that he wanted to become a professional musician. Having studied music in college and in university allowed Nicolas to make many connections in the montreal music scene. The city's culturally diverse population has also allowed him to learn a wide variety of different styles, as he has accompanied arists from Haiti, Mali, the Dominican Republic, and many more. His band Longtoe, which achors its esthetic identity in the hard bop genre, draws many influences from the many other styles he has learned on his musical journey such as reggae, afrobeat, and music from the mandinka tradition. His unique compositional style can be heard on his band's EP Snacks, and more of this musician's work will be availble for everyone to hear on Longtoe's first full length album Le Banquet which releases on november 18th. On top of being the composer, arranger and guitar player of his band Longtoe, Nicolas also plays the trumpet and arranged many of the songs of the band Coco Rose, and can be found accompanying many artists in and around the montreal music scene.
