Khan Jamal - Gives the Vibes Some (Palm, 1974)

Khan Jamal - Gives the Vibes Some (Palm, 1974)

Source: Music and More by Tim Niland

Khan Jamal is one of the unsung heroes of the vibraphone, developing his own unique personality on the instrument apart from the blues drenched soul of Milt Jackson and the hard-bop pyrotechnics of Bubby Hutcherson. This obscure album was released on the French Palm label, and feature Jamal in some really interesting duet and solo settings. Starting off with “Pure Energy" with track lives up to its name as Jamal and drummer Hassan Rashid build a rippling and rolling improvisation ...

Apple Blocks iTunes Sync on the Palm Pre

Apple Blocks iTunes Sync on the Palm Pre

Source: PC Magazine

We feared this day, and yet here it is: Apple has blocked the Palm Pre from syncing with iTunes 8 with its latest iTunes 8.2.1 update, according to Engadget Mobile. Apple's Software Update says in the install dialog that the new version “provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices." That's about as pointed as it gets without saying it straight out. It's up to the individual Palm Pre owner how much ...

Apple Takes Aim at Palm Pre's iTunes Support

Apple Takes Aim at Palm Pre's iTunes Support

Source: PC Magazine

Considering that the Palm Pre was designed in part by ex-Apple employees, and that its iTunes syncing function works by pretending to be an iPod, it was predictable that Apple would try to shoot it down. The Big Fruit today released a very thinly veiled attack on the Pre's iTunes capabilities, in the form of a support note. While it never mentions the Pre by name, it's clear what they're talking about here. “Apple is aware that some third-parties claim ...

Palm Pre's Launch a Plus for Tech Industry

Palm Pre's Launch a Plus for Tech Industry

Source: PC Magazine

It's no iPhone-killer, but the launch this weekend of Palm Inc's “Pre" could well become the brightest event this year for a gloomy industry. Palm Inc's smartphone may not attract lines around the block like past Apple Inc iPhone launches. But its launch will be seen as a badly needed shot of adrenaline for Palm and exclusive provider Sprint Nextel Corp. Plenty could go wrong. Executives have warned of shortages. Scathing reviews could smother not just Palm's hopes, but also ...
