Micetones

Formed in Verona, Italy, in 2015, Micetones began as a studio-based project driven by experimentation and close analysis of the jazz language, primarily through the reworking and arrangement of jazz standards. In its early years, the group functioned as an open laboratory rather than a fixed ensemble, allowing its members to explore form, harmony, and collective interaction without stylistic constraints.

After several lineup changes, the band reached a definitive configuration in early 2025 with Matteo Prevedelli (saxophone), Lorenzo Tomelleri (piano), Matteo Valle (bass), and Davide Leonardi (drums). This moment marked a turning point: Micetones shifted its focus from reinterpretation to the creation of original material, drawing on the diverse musical backgrounds of its members.

Elements of metal and progressive rock—particularly the use of odd meters and complex rhythmic structures—merge naturally with a solid grounding in mainstream jazz, resulting in a sound that resists easy categorization. Rather than positioning themselves within a specific genre, Micetones embrace a fluid musical identity shaped by contrast, tension, and dialogue.

At the core of the project lies a strong emphasis on interplay and improvisation. Composition serves as a framework rather than a boundary, leaving space for spontaneity and real-time interaction. The band’s music thrives on contamination: different genres, aesthetics, and personal histories intersect to create a dynamic and evolving collective voice.
