Sofia Moriz

Sofia Moriz (b. 12 June 2013, Cape Town, South Africa) is a young South African multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who plays piano, guitar and bass guitar. She began formal piano lessons at the age of six at Hout Bay Music, added guitar at eight and bass guitar at ten, and had progressed to Piano Level 4 by 2025. In 2026 she began preparing Trinity Grade 5 piano repertoire, continuing to develop both her classical technique and contemporary performance skills.

Sofia made her first recording at the age of six, singing and playing piano on “I Would Like to Go to Mars,” inspired by the Faber Piano Adventures series. The recording went on to win the Junior Vocal & Instrumental Music category of Llandudno’s Got Talent in 2020, giving her an early introduction to recording and performance.

Her subsequent achievements include multiple school Honours Awards for piano, guitar, bass guitar and performing, as well as Music Star of the Month awards. In 2025 she received a Gold Diploma for Piano at the Cape Town Eisteddfod, followed by High Honours at the 2026 Cape Town Eisteddfod, where she performed J.S. Bach’s Prelude in C Major, BWV 846 from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I, and Justin Hurwitz’s Engagement Party from La La Land.

Sofia has developed considerable live-performance experience across several instruments. At Artscape Theatre in Cape Town, she has appeared as a guitarist, bassist and vocalist, including a solo guitar performance before an audience of approximately 500 people at the 2025 Artscape Schools Festival. In April 2026 she performed bass guitar with the Llandudno Primary School Grade 7 Band at Suidoosterfees, also at Artscape, and returned as the band’s bassist for the 2026 Artscape Schools Festival. Her solo piano performances in 2026 have included Bach’s Prelude in C Major and Hurwitz’s Engagement Party, the latter also performed at a Llandudno Primary School Mid-Term Assembly.

Alongside her live work, Sofia has begun building professional studio experience. She has contributed backing vocals to internationally released recordings produced at Hout Bay Music Recording Studios, marking her first worldwide commercial releases and expanding her experience beyond student performances into professional music production.

Sofia’s musical development combines classical piano training, contemporary repertoire, multi-instrumental performance, ensemble work, vocals and studio recording. Still at the beginning of her musical career, she has already accumulated experience ranging from solo classical piano and acoustic guitar to bass performance with a live band and professional vocal recording, providing a broad foundation for her continuing development as a musician and recording artist.
