Tangerine

Tangerine is fresh duo of pianist Danielle Friedman (Berlin) and saxophonist Aviv Noam (Amsterdam). Their music is an ongoing exploration of both the differences and the commonality of their inner and artistic worlds, bringing a unique blend of musical aesthetics: jazz, swing, improvisation, and avant-garde approaches mixed with a western classical music touch and Middle Eastern spices. The name “Tangerine” resembles both the enchanting citrus smells of Aviv & Danielle’s homeland and the tangent meeting point between their two similar yet different worlds.
Tangerine aspire to bring all of that with open & full hearts to the listener, engaging in an intimate manner.

Formed in 2022, the project grew from a sporadic collaboration of several musical formations, after Friedman moved to Europe following several years of living and performing in NYC. Over the years, Aviv and Danielle have performed together at venues such as B-Flat Jazz Club, Jazzclub-Kunstfabrik Schlot, Jazz Cafe Alto and Donau 115, amongst others. They utilized their meetings for musical experimentation and compositional collaboration over what will become Tangerine's musical aesthetics. In early 2024, Tangerine entered the studio and recorded their first demos, only to discover how pleased they are with the end result, and are releasing the music as their debut EP.  In 2024 Tangerine received a supporting grant from “Amarte Fonds” (NL) for compositional and artistic development, which contributed to expanding their musical repertoire, and to the creation of their first co-composed music.

Tangerine's debut EP - titled "Time Without Disasters" (May 2025) - creates a colorful universe with its own time and space, a space that brings a strong, yet peaceful moment in time to all those who encounter this music.

Tangerine Dream - Live in America 1992 (2011)

Source: Something Else!

Tangerine Dream—or as they were known, back when I was in school: The guys who did the weird music for the “Risky Business" soundtrack—had gotten significantly less weird by this point. Founding member Edgar Froese is the lone hold over from Tangerine Dream's 1971-77 whoa-man synthesizer-soundscape hey day, a period that also included keyboardist Peter Baumann and drummer Christopher Franke. By 1992, when this live date was recorded, the group (which now included Froese's son Jerome on keyboards and guitar, ...

A NOD TO ONE OF LIVE-ELECTRONICA'S GREAT GRANDFATHERS Germany's Tangerine Dream are one of the least name-checked yet most pervasively influential bands of the late 20th century. Without their pioneering work in the 1970s, alongside kindred spirits like Can and Faust, it's hard to imagine STS9, Lotus and many of today's revered livetronica acts coming into being. Tangerine Dream injected hemoglobin into modernist sounds, a breathing ghost inside the rising machine world around them. What they helped get rolling continues ...
