Duarte Ventura
Duarte Ventura, born in 2000, began his musical studies at the age of ten at the Associação Filarmónica Arganilense, attending percussion and music theory classes. At the age of twelve, he started studying at the Conservatório de Música de Coimbra, continuing his classical percussion education. In 2015, he decided to change direction, focusing solely on the vibraphone and the jazz genre, joining the Professional Course of Jazz Instrumentalist at the Conservatório de Música de Coimbra. After three years of the course, he was admitted to the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, an institution that allowed him to have classes with renowned national and international musicians, such as Jeffery Davis, André Fernandes, João Moreira, Afonso Pais, among others.
He has had the opportunity to collaborate with musicians such as Peter Evans, John O’Gallagher, Brad Jones, Asger Nissen, João Barradas, André Fernandes, Demian Cabaud, among others. Currently, he is an active musician of the Lisbon jazz scene and he is involved in several projects as a sideman, co-leads groups like, GODUA, TRAFIKLYS, AVC, APOPHENIA, DRACAENA DRACO and leads his own groups "Duarte Ventura Quintet", winner of the RTP/Prémio Jovens Músicos 2023, "REPERIO", and "MUSIC FROM THE GROUND FLOOR".
He has performed at festivals and venues such as the Hot Clube de Portugal, Salão Brazil, Galeria ZDB, Centro Cultural de Belém, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Teatro Rivoli, Festival Jazz ao Centro Clube, Festival Porta-Jazz, Robalo Antena 2 Festival, Funchal Jazz Festival, Festa do Jazz, Seixal Jazz, MeaJazz, Festival Músicas do Mundo, among others.
In 2024, he premiered REPERIO, a commission by Festa do Jazz, at Centro Cultural de Belém.
He is a member of Timbuktu Cultural Association.
