Odin Scherer

Odin Scherer is a Brooklyn, NY based guitarist, composer, improviser, and mixing engineer from Katonah, NY. Since moving to NYC in 2017 to attend The New School on scholarship, he has performed at venues including The Jazz Gallery, Bar Next Door, Smalls Jazz Club, Williamsburg Music Center, ShapeShifter Lab, Green Lung Studio, Tishman Auditorium at The New School, Julian’s NYC, and WBGO radio station in New Jersey. His diverse research interests include Black American music, folkloric music from around the globe, wildlife and ecosystems, fossils, and Impressionist classical music and visual art.

Odin graduated with honors from The New School in May of 2021 with a BFA in Jazz Guitar Performance, and was awarded the Alice and John Coltrane award for creative excellence. He studied with Mary Halvorson, Tony Malaby, Miles Okazaki, Patricia Brennan, Andrew Cyrille, Reggie Workman, Craig Weinrib, David Virelles, and many other legendary NYC musicians.

Odin's recent releases include quartet EP "orb weaver" with Adam Cordero, Steven Crammer, and Walter Stinson, and sophomore duo album "Sonora" with Adam Cordero. "Sonora" explores the timbral possibilities of a woodwind and guitar duo, in which Adam plays bassoon, clarinet, alto saxophone, and soprano saxophone, and Odin rotates between archtop guitar and acoustic guitar. In creating Sonora, Adam and Odin focused on composed material supported by mindful improvisation; the intent of improvisation is to enhance the compositions, rather than overwhelm them.

Odin’s plans include a release of original compositions arranged for guitar, synth, and MIDI programmed ensemble, and performing the music from "Sonora" with Adam Cordero around the East Coast and NYC. He currently works as the Inventory Manager and Assistant Buyer at mutlifunctional retail space SEED BRKLYN in Bed Stuy under the direction of multidisciplinary artist Christophe Roberts.
