[Vorbach's sound is] powerful, deep and expressive, sometimes a bit smoky, bluesy, and soulful.

Claudia Vorbach is a singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist from Tübingen, Southern Germany. Her music blends jazz, folk, and blues, creating a unique sound that reflects her diverse influences. Claudia grew up in a musical home surrounded by jazz and classical music. She took piano lessons early on and later taught herself to play the guitar. Her vocal development was guided by various teachers, most notably jazz vocalist Freddy Wilkes and Fola Dada, both based in Germany.

"Miss Authentic," a nickname given to her by one of her fellow musicians, captures a key aspect of her music. This moniker reflects the emotional intensity with which Claudia delivers her songs. The way she sings allows listeners to feel the deep passion she has for her music, creating an intimate connection with the audience. For Claudia, each song has its own unique impulse, which drives her during the composing process. This ethos pushes her to cross musical and stylistic boundaries in her work.

Claudia made her debut with the album Come Down Easy (Phonector) in April 2015. Her second album, Is There A Time? (released on December 21, 2018, by Phonector), includes 14 tracks, all written and arranged by Claudia herself. This album has a more jazzy sound compared to her first, which may be attributed to both her evolving compositional style and a change in the lineup of her band. The new lineup featured again Axel Kuehn on double bass and  Felix Schrack on drums but she choosed a new pianist: Martin Soeroes  All three are jazz musicians from Southern German Jazz Scene. Until the recording session in 2017  they haven't played together in this constellation.

A bit about her bandmates:

Pianist Martin Soeroes (p) is a notable figure, having won the "Czech Jazz Contest" and placing third in "The New York Jazz Competition" with the Jan Prax Quartett in 2014. Martin plays in lots of different projects in Germany. He recorded albums with the Fusion-RnB-Jazz Group called Dr. Syros. He released one album as a leader with his own compositions with the "Martin Sörös Trio". And he plays together with saxophonist Lukas Pfeil in the PfeilSörös Group (comp by Pfeil & Sörös).
Double bass player Axel Kuehn (b) is known as the leader and composer for the Axel Kühn Trio. He also has an impressive resume, having won the "Europäische Burghäuser Nachwuchs-Jazzpreis" in 2009 with the Kühntett. Axel Kuehn was nominated 2024 for the "Deutsche Jazzpreis- Ensemble des Jahres "with the Open The Box Trio (Bandleader is the german drummer Christian Krischkowsky.)
Felix Schrack (dr) created with Sebastian Schuster (b) and Christoph Beck (sax) the trio called "Das letzte Känguruh". They made a few albums. Felix made his debut album as a leader with "Songs and Thoughts" by Felix Schrack Quartett in 2022. Martin Soeroes plays the piano/keyboards in FSQ.

For listeners of a certain age, this recording evokes memories of Melanie performing “Candles in the Rain." That was a long time ago--1970--and Melanie is no longer with us, but her influence is evident in Claudia Vorbach's stylings. There was a kind of cheerful irony in Melanie's work, a wink and a nod in “Brand New Key (The Roller Skate Song)" in 1971 that made people grin, especially if they were of a mind to try on roller skates.

Claudia Vorbach: Rainbows Of Your Love

Back in 2002, Norah Jones released her album Come Away with Me, blending acoustic roots music, soft pop and jazz through a singer-songwriter lens. While Jones was not the first to explore this sound, she stamped her identity on it. Claudia Vorbach, a singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist from Tübingen, Germany, follows in this tradition, bringing her own distinctive voice to the genre. In 2016, Vorbach released her debut album, Come Down Easy, followed by Is There a ...

"Anyone can imitate, but life's experiences are what make for expression. And so one hears this recording, not complicated but heartfelt, and remembers that our experiences may be ordinary, not necessarily unique, but the basis of any worthwhile art. Some emotions are indeed universal and Vorbach's music is a fitting language for them." Richard J Salvucci on All About Jazz (Album Review Rainbows, June 2025)                         https://www.allaboutjazz.com/rainbows-of-your-love-claudia-vorbach-record-jet__26204
