Martí Mitjavila
Martí Mitjavila, born in Barcelona in 2000, is a young jazz clarinetist and saxophonist currently based in Amsterdam. He began exploring jazz at an early age, inspired by his father's record collection. Martí holds a Bachelor and a Masters Degree from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He has studied with renowned musicians such as Ben van Gelder, Simon Rigter, Joris Roelofs, Jasper Blom, George Coleman, Dick Oatts and Reggie Workman.
Throughout his career, Martí has performed across Europe at notable events, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, the Bimhuis Rough Diamonds Series, and jazz festivals in Breda, Heerde, and Vic.
He leads the Martí Mitjavila Trio, which delves into lesser-known pieces from the Great American Songbook and showcases Martí's original compositions. Their music is rooted in the jazz tradition while embracing a forward-looking perspective.
Martí's achievements include winning the Best Soloist Award at the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award in 2022, the Grachtenfestival Jazz Competition in 2022, and the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours in 2019 with his trio.
In 2022, the Martí Mitjavila Trio released their album 'Round the Corner' under ZenneZ Records.
Martí is also a founding member of The Fried Seven, the renowned trad-jazz ensemble which in 2024 released their debut album 'Late to the Party' under Rivermont Records.
