Daniel Rorke

​ Irish/Australian tenor and soprano saxophonist Daniel Rorke lives in Dublin, and frequently works in Australia, Europe and The United States. He completed his Masters in Jazz Performance at NTNU Jazzlinja in Norway. He also holds a Bachelor in Jazz Performance with first class honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and a PhD in music from the University of New England.

His latest album, Naked Allies, recorded in Brooklyn NY, features renowned saxophonist Oscar Noriega (Endangered Blood / Tim Berne’s Snakeoil), Simon Jermyn (Jim Black / Matt Manieri) and Matthew Jacobson (Ronan Guilfoyle / Roamer). It is now available through Orenda Records, the biggest independent Jazz label in the United States and has met with critical acclaim in the Jazz press.

Boasting a varied performance career, he has worked with cutting edge European and American Jazz musicians such as Hilmar Jensson (Alas No Axis), Per Oddvar Johansen (ECM recording artist), Rune Nergaard, Samuel Jon Samuelsson (Sigur Ros), Sygtryygr Baldurson (Sugar Cubes) and many others.

Notable concert appearances include The Bushwick Improvised Music Series, the Trondheim Jazz Festival, the Jazz Cafe in London, The Cork Jazz Festival, Acton Jazz Cafe in Boston, Moods in Zurich, Central Park Summer Stage in New York, Bennett’s Lane in Melbourne, The Reykjavik Jazz festival in Iceland, Groningen Festival in the Nederland, The Darwin Festival in Australia, the Sydney Opera House, and many other clubs and festivals in Europe, the United States, and the antipodes.

He has won many awards including Icelandic Jazz Album of The Year in 2005. In 2019 He was granted a US Exceptional Alien Visa to participate in recordings, performances, and educational activities in New York.

He is currently Lecturer in Jazz at Dublin City University, Ireland's premier institution for the study of Jazz and improvised music. Previously, until the covid pandemic, Lecturer in Music at Syracuse University, NY, where he instructed in Jazz and other creative music.
