Charito

Distinctively a most prominent jazz vocalist in Japan with multi-awarded albums recorded and released internationally, Charito's artistry continues to establish its global presence with her recent and forthcoming tours in Europe, Asia, North and Latin America. Her highly personal and expressive vocal style incorporates the breadth of her musical interests, from straight-ahead soulful ballads to hard-swinging grooves and improvisational adventures. Her approach is fresh and invigorating, paying tribute to the jazz tradition while interacting and exploring, always seeking to express herself in the moment. In Ms. Nancy Wilson's words, "The first time I heard Charito, I physically and emotionally embraced her and thought myself BEAUTIFUL, that came from the heart and the soul. She has a warm way of presenting a song and she represents what a singer really is, a song stylist." This Girl (1990)

Her latest album "Watch What Happens", recorded in France with the greatmaestro Michel Legrand was released on August 20,2008 received greatreviews and was awarded a Gold Disc Award by Swing Journal.

A rare, history making collaboration with Michel Legrand, Charito's "WatchWhat Happens", succeeds in capturing the essence of the great maestro's pieces. A mix of strong melodies and provocative arrangements, thisalbum contains interpretations of famous movie themes, "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" "Windmills of Your Mind" and "Summer of '42." Particularly impressive are Charito and Michel's vocal duet numbers Pieces of Dreams and Quand On S'Aime. Recorded in such an intimate way, this recording confirmsMichel's recognition of Charito's vocal stylings."A beautiful and spontaneous expression of life" were his exact words of praise."

Michael Jackson tribute discs are inevitable. Every stripe will be conceived and performed, from the sublime to the truly frightening. Chiming in at the front of the former line is Charito's excellent Heal The World. The Japan-based singer is best known for her successful string of recordings begun in the early 1990s. Her singing is plush and near perfect, well-suited for a contemporary repertoire like the Michael Jackson songbook. Produced by Harvey Mason, who also plays drums, Heal The World ...

Charito: Heal The World

Read "Heal The World" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

Michael Jackson's music has never been bound by genre lines. Jackson will always be known as the “King of Pop," but his recordings have always had a near-universal appeal that transcends any single category. While odd behavior in his private life--and repeated allegations of misconduct with minors--cast a pall over his image in his later years, his artistry was the one thing that was never in question. When Jackson passed away in 2009, a few things happened. ...
