About Me

artdirector & photographer; crazy about music, photography, design & all nice things in life ... shouldn't forget coffee :)

Petra Cvelbar is a photographer based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, whose practice is dedicated to music and live performance. Since 2009, she has followed the international concert scene, creating an extensive body of work that documents musicians, performances and the atmosphere surrounding them. Working from beneath the stage, Petra approaches concert photography as both documentation and visual interpretation. Her photographs capture the intensity and intimacy of live performance, focusing on fleeting gestures, expressions, movement and the interplay of light, sound and presence. Rather than simply recording what happens on stage, she seeks to translate the emotional experience of music into a visual language. Over the years, her work has become closely associated with the free jazz and improvised music scene, but also to all music that she finds interest in. Her photographs have been featured on album covers and in books, music magazines and online publications, and have been used extensively by musicians and music groups for promotional purposes. Petra’s long-term engagement with live music has resulted in a growing photographic archive that reflects the diversity and vitality of contemporary music. Her work is grounded in a deep personal connection to the concert experience, where photography becomes a way of preserving moments that are otherwise fleeting. Music is something what drives her to constant discovery.
