About the Album

Fabulous new arrangement of Herbie Hancock's fusion classic, WATERMELON MAN. Featuring David Dejesus (NYC's Birdland Jazz Band director) on flute & alto sax; Grammy-winning guitarist Paul Nelson. The arrangement is more psychedelic and fuller than the original, utilizing a larger band. Starts with Hancock's recognizable introduction: a growing chorus of instruments that represent the expanding throng of morning street vendors. The piece keeps adding players and rhythms until it becomes an urban cacophony. Nelson's blues fusion guitar weaves in and out of Dejesus' jazz and Mueller's driving bass & keys. Congas by The Netherlands' percussionist Ruben de Ruiter is another highlight, as well as the drumming of newcomer Isaiah Schmidt (Berklee College of Music).
