About the Album

The Bridge Quartet is:
PHIL DWYER saxophone
DARRELL GRANT piano
TOM WAKELING bass
ALAN JONES drums Sonny Rollins gave the bridge already a pretty deep jazz connotation. Bridge says something about joining two opposite sides, spanning chasms and making once improbable crossings possible difficult crossings easy. Music itself is a bridge between individuals, generations, ideologies. Jazz is certainly a bridge between cultures and generations. Rhythm and melody have been used as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. Bach, Coltrane and The Shaman walk that bridge. The form (structure) of a song is a bridge between us when we play. Improvisation walks, runs or drives over those bridges ... sometimes improvisation flies into the bridge from the side, bending it out of shape momentarily or making it swing back and forth. The music makes a bridge of expression and emotion between the players and the listeners ... those qualities travel in both directions across the bridge.
