“The Gifted People” is a live-recorded jazz composition inspired by the brilliance, resilience, and creativity of everyday Black communities. Recorded in Cleveland, the piece reflects collective strength—honoring mentors, educators, artists, and unsung culture bearers who pass knowledge forward. The track is part of my album Dear Cleveland, a musical homecoming that celebrates the city and people who shaped my identity as a pianist, composer, and lifelong music educator.
