About the Album

Pisagua refers to a Chilean ship (c1900) that survived several near-wrecks and served in the Antarctic ocean. The song plays with the contrast between spacious minimalistic chamber music, and rhythmic ideas drawn from heavy metal. The contrast invoked the tension between man and nature. Polar Institute inhabits a unique space between chamber classical music and post-rock. Formed by Manchester based composer Rob Thorpe, Polar Institute’s original music is inspired by the beauty and isolation of wilderness, and the tension of our interaction with nature.
