About the Album

"Misterioso" is the first track from "The Newest Sound You Never Heard," the newly discovered recording from the iconic Ran Blake and Jeanne Lee out January 25, 2019 via A-Side Records in conjunction with the Ran Blake Foundation and New England Conservatory In 1961 Blake and Lee recorded their mutual debut album The Newest Sound Around. Fans had to wait nearly three decades for a follow-up release, You Stepped Out of a Dream, in 1989. With The Newest Sound You Never Heard there's now double the recorded material from this boundless duo. The double album collects nearly two hours of previously unheard music recorded in 1966 and 1967. It features daring explorations of compositions by Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Charlie Parker, and others. Lee and Blake, who met at Bard College, had a lifelong friendship and collaboration that came to a close with Lee's death in 2000. The album will be released just a few days before Lee would have celebrated her 80th birthday.
