About the Album
Bassist/composer Joe Fonda pays tribute to the heralded composer and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith with “Eyes on the Horizon.” This album of original Fonda compositions captures Wadada’s lifetime commitment to creativity, progress, and spirituality. Joining Fonda are Wadada himself as well as pianist Satoko Fujii and drummer Tiziano Tononi. The track “Inspiration Opus #1” features the kind of meditative playing and fearless interplay that has made Wadada a creative music hero and Fonda one of his greatest protegees.
