At a summer picnic, the character in the song is waiting hungrily as the church ladies guard the potluck until the magic moment. A queue forms, but out of nowhere, a gentleman caller appears with two plates of fresh boiled corn on the cob for them to enjoy together. As they get to know each other gnawing on messy and buttery corn on the cob, a romance blossoms, and are memorialized with corn puns in this original that is a rough contrafact for Surrey with a Fringe on Top with a built-in tag in the third "A" section, and an added original verse.
