Denis DiBlasio is a jazz saxophone/flute performer, educator, and clinician for Yamaha Music. A former member of the Maynard Ferguson band, he is now a full professor and coordinator of Composition and Jazz Studies at Rowan University in New Jersey. His Australian Sketches* was premiered and written for and premiered by Timothy Schwarz as a companion piece to Claude Bolling’s Suite for Violin and Jazz Piano Trio. Each of the five movements of Australian Sketches relates to a saying DiBlasio heard while visiting Australia. “Uluru”, the final movement of this work , is the famous Ayer’s Rock from the vantage point of a cyclist encircling the rock.
