About the Album
"ASHIA" a word from the nation of Cameroon is one of those words that has no single meaning. It can be "Thank You" or "Your Welcome" but also express sympathy, empathy or just let someone know they are loved. This song crosses the jazz spectrum and three continents. Recorded in the USA, Brazil, Argentina and Nigeria it highlights how jazz has become a common language throughout the human family. Featuring players such as two-time Grammy nominee Mauricio Zottarelli on drums and percussion, the warmth of the voice of Juan Lucangioli, the crisp horns of NYC's Will Allen Jr and Ofat the Nigeria's premier saxophonist, the tune resonates a freshness and joy that puts a smile on your face. Driving the band on bass is the rising star from São Paulo, Jackson Lourenço. We hear the piano of Jon Gold over a chorus and jazz feeel influnced by the Isicathamiya style of South Africa and moving into sections featuring Calypso from Cabo Verde and even a touch of Samba from Brazil. Great playing, good fun and all done with a greeting of "Ashia" for the people of Cameroon as it suffers through a litttle-known and devastating civil war.
