About the Album

I wrote this piece when I was about 16 and it features my own son, Thomas, then 15, on vibes. Thomas came to me when he was only 13 and told me he'd like to learn to play jazz on the vibes. My father, Frank, was in the final years of his life and I was trying to record his (and some of my) original compositions. I immediately began writing Thomas into our arrangements. It took three years to complete this project, and my father unfortunately didn't live to hear the final results, but my newest album, Generations, is the result. Besides Thomas on vibes Alligator Wine also features one of my mentors, Rich Hughes, on trumpet. I play keys, bass and drums (ironically, I didn't include guitar, my main instrument, on this track).
