About the Album
Opening track from "Songs of Innocence" album composed by Patrick Zimmerli. The bright, primary-color quality of this piece disguises the fact that it is based in a lilting 11/8 meter. The winsome soprano melody also low-key contains complex polyrhythms— groups of 8 over the 11 for example. The soprano solo, wiith darker, more savage energy, incorporates further rhythmic overlayings. Hays' solo brings a kind of intermediate feeling, gradually returning to the brightness of the melody; the piece ends with Takeishi’s percussion inventing further variations over the 11/8 vamp.
