Crazy as it sounds, All About Jazz turned 25 today. What started as a fun hobby on August 15, 1995 is becoming a life's work and the good news is AAJ is far from a finished product. This year, in particular, has been crazy active and will culminate in the launching of a virtual jazz club and a streamed event in late October.
It's funny, back in 1997, good friend and occasional contributor Lawrence Peryer suggested I register the allaboutjazz.com domain. At the time we were using visionx.com/jazz and I was thinking, "why do I need the domain when visionx.com/jazz is so easy to remember?" :-) Well, exactly two years to the day I started AAJ, I registered allaboutjazz.com. Thank you, Lawrence!
We plan to celebrate throughout the remainder of the year and keep the party rolling well into 2021.
I'll leave you with this... shortly after I launched All About Jazz and shortly after the book The Golden Age of Jazz was published, famed jazz photographer William P. Gottlieb sent me an autographed copy and I cherish it to this day. Bill passed in 2006.
You can learn more about The Golden Age of Jazzhere.
And for a complete blast from your past, All About Jazz's original logo was a cartoon character that I created years before the website. What ever happened to the little trumpet playing jazz dude?
All About Jazz has been a pillar of jazz since 1995, championing it as an art form and, more importantly, supporting the musicians who create it. Our enduring commitment has made "AAJ" one of the most culturally important websites of its kind, read by hundreds of thousands of fans, musicians and industry figures every month.
