Rakalam Bob Moses: Father's Day B'hash

Read "Father's Day B'hash" reviewed by Lyn Horton

Accepting the offer of a fellow instructor at the New England Conservatory for free studio time, drummer Rakalam Bob Moses assembled a band of evolving musicians and longtime collaborator Stan Strickland (tenor saxophonist and clarinetist), to record, on June 16, 2006, Father's Day B'Hash. Moses proposed ideas for saxophonists Strickland, Ommudra Thomas Arabia, Nick Videen, Luis Rosa and Petr Cancura, violinist Andrei Matorin, bassist Justin Purtill and trumpeter Nicole Rampersaud yet asked that free expression be the guiding force.

Rakalam Bob Moses: Father's Day B'hash

Two words that best describe the work of Rakalam Bob Moses are “ancient future." This twin epithet really requires no explanation. Bob Moses: Love Animal

Read "Love Animal" reviewed by David Adler

And so Love Animal takes its place alongside Moses' avant-garde ...

Bob Moses: Nishoma

Read "Nishoma" reviewed by Todd S. Jenkins

Drummer Bob Moses has been a ground-breaker in jazz for about thirty-five years. After gigging around New York as a vibraphonist in his teens, he formed the electric free-jazz group Free Spirits with guitarist Larry Coryell and Native American tenorist Jim Pepper. Later he worked as a sideman with many of New York’s finest jazzers: saxophonists Roland Kirk and Dave Liebman, vibraphonist Gary Burton, bandleaders Mike Gibbs and George Gruntz, drummer Jack DeJohnette, bassist Steve Swallow, and guitarists Pat Metheny ...

Bob Moses/Tisziji Munos: Love Everlasting

Read "Love Everlasting" reviewed by Mark Corroto

I hope I’m still alive in the year 2026. Like last year with Duke Ellington and this year honoring the 100th anniversary of Louis Armstrong’s birth, 2026 with mark John Coltrane’s centenary. Coltrane, who bore so many musical descendants, will surely be pleased with the various tributes to come. One early contribution to that upcoming year is the spiritually driven Love Everlasting, released recently but recorded thirteen years ago. While you do the math, I’ll thank Medeski, Martin, and Woods’ ...
