guitarAlbum Description
You're All I've Got is a sensitively rendered jazz and latin exploration about romantic delusions. The album opens with “Secrets,” a soft samba where Miguel Valdes’ muted trumpet complements a singer who protects his vulnerabilities by hiding himself, the first of several semi-deluded and possibly moronic sentimental personas on this record. From there, the set moves through “Dream Again,” a melancholy tenor sax quartet where fantasy becomes a calculated refuge, and “I’m The One,” with Ken Campbell’s steel guitar capturing the ambivalence between confidence and insecurity. A turning point arrives with “Romantic Man,” where Valdes’ sultry mute work creates a soundtrack for a protagonist beginning to recognize his own psychological patterns, but it is a wry cautionary tale of the lover as fool, revealed as an unreliable narrator of his own story. Eric Harper’s flamenco guitar adds a touch of duende to “How To Cry”, a passionate lyric about emotional honesty, while the title suite, an unexpected Latin-flavored air de cours, draws the listener into a nocturnal world of “lonely dancers” and human yearning. The album concludes with “Losing You,” which finds our narrator hopefully discovering the beginnings of self-awareness.
