https://jessie-cox.bandcamp.com This is Cox's debut solo release. Composed of music for cymbal and bow, as well as the occasional addition of voice and flute, it invites the listener into Cox’s unique musical world in a very intimate and rich fashion. Ranging from long explorations of the unique spatial and timbral possibilities of cymbals in “Invocation: Nebula,” to poetry-like speech spoken from behind a mask in “When You’re A Star,” the record explores the unique possibilities gained by Cox’s newly invented performance techniques and recording methodologies. The whole work is recorded using a zoom-recorder strapped onto a mask worn by Cox, while balancing cymbals on his head and bowing them with a bass bow, altering the sound with his other hand. Such unique methods of recording and music production result in a never-before-heard spatialization of frequencies, senses of space, and engulfment in sound.
