Album Description

«Ukrainian Melodies» - is a debut album by young jazz singer and composer Alina Zalozna independently released on 2nd November 2022, recorded with well known representatives of Ukrainian jazz scene at Kaska Records Studios (Kyiv). Borys Mohylevskyi - sax; Oleksandr Malyshev - piano, vocals; Valentyn Korniienko - bass; Pavlo Halytskyi - drums and a special guest on guitar - Denys Dontsov. Album consists of 10 Ukrainian folk songs presented in Alina’s jazz arrangements. Most of the melodies she knows from childhood or heard from the famous singers like Nina Matvienko, Kvitka Cisyk, Trio Marenych, some of the songs became popular and important among Ukrainians since Russian invasion in 2014 and 2022. All authentic melodies are naturally blended with contemporary jazz and latin rhythms, combined with common jazz harmonic and melodic language. The main point of this project is to show the beauty of Ukrainian folk songs in new, contemporary forms and let people become more familiar with Ukrainian tradition, which is very important nowadays.
