Coming July 30: Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Duke Ellington’s Iconic 1956 Bethlehem Records Recording of “Summertime” with a Fresh Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz Interpretation.
Featuring authentic elements from Duke Ellington’s legendary recording, seamlessly woven together with brand-new Afro-Cuban arrangements by Demetrio Muñiz, the legendary Musical Director of Buena Vista Social Club, creating an entirely new musical experience.
The Tumbao Experience's debut single, "Love Me or Leave Me," featured the original vocals of the legendary Nina Simone, reimagined within a vibrant Afro-Cuban Latin jazz arrangement.
Adding a deeply personal dimension to the recording was a special guest appearance by her brother and lifelong musical collaborator, Dr. Samuel Waymon. An award-winning composer, pianist, and vocalist, Dr. Waymon contributed to more than ten of Nina Simone's albums. Their sibling harmonies brought remarkable emotional depth to the recording, creating a powerful fusion of voice, rhythm, and musical legacy while honoring their enduring musical bond.
