Album Description
The Endurance of Optimism captures saxophonist and composer John Petrucelli in a live trio performance at Drift Lounge in Salt Lake City with guitarist Christopher Kaukali and drummer Jacob Porter.
The concert was not originally intended to become an album. It was captured on an iPhone as an ephemeral document of the evening, but the performance carried an unusual intensity and intimacy that ultimately led Petrucelli to share it as a record. Concert presenter Chaz Prymek of Yardwork Presents later described the night as “more ceremony than concert.”
Blending original compositions, improvisation, and standards, the album documents the spontaneity and openness of a single live performance rather than attempting to recreate it in the studio.
The Endurance of Optimism is Petrucelli’s first album since 2018 and the first recording he has made using one of the instruments from his own company, PETRUCELLI, a Mark ONE tenor saxophone.
