Album Description

Kostya Ivchuk’s Quintet debuts its first album under the name “Surrender” in the end October, which symbolizes longing for home and family, memories about experienced emotions, mood and state of mind. All the feelings as good and evil, love and hate, memories about the past and dreams for the future are gathered in this album. Album is made in the style of modern jazz. Its music combines elements of classic Scandinavian cold sound and warm Ukrainian motives. As the songwriter says, in writing music he was inspired by such musicians as Esbjorn Svensson, Lars Danielsson, Tord Gustavsen, Iiro Rantala, Radiohead, Claude Debussy. Group’s concept, artistic ambitions and stylistic inspiration created an interesting sound with a guitar line, alto saxophone and piano. Three leading instruments play a melody in unison, creating a solid, multi-layered sound. Very experienced musicians are participated in the group, achievements of which are approved by grants, honors and scholarships. Fortunately, their interests and inspiration go far beyond the orthodox jazz and become an element of making new sounds and creations. They are implementations of the concept, which is not a “jazz” so far, but more universal improvised modern music, for which the jazz structure is the most important turning point. Most of the tracks in the album are in medium and slow beat symbolizing life without fear and panic. Album consists of 7 tracks: 1.Peaceful warrior 2. Swan 3. Denzel Washington 4. Last day of freedom 5. Invisible friend 6. Surrender 7. Shadow dance The composition with the same-titled album “Surrender” is a reflection about time, its importance and value to all of us, how important to feel the depth of days lived, leaving them in mind as warm memories. “Invisible friend” is about friendship. How important are friends in our life? Is this connection unbreakable, or is it just an illusion saving us from loneliness? Can we trust everyone, or probably, we ourselves have an invisible friend? Swan – is a musical reflection about loyalty and devotion, appearing in an image of the swan, having its truly valuable qualities of the human soul. In album recording participated: Rostislav Voitko – alto saxophone Aleksei Bogolyubov – piano Konstantin Ivchuk – guitar Yaroslav Tovaryansky – double-bass Nikolai Domashov – drums
