Album Description
Composer/pianist Steve Sandberg has led a long and diverse musical life. His experience includes immersing himself in the NYC Latin jazz scene in the 80s (playing with Mario Rivera, Bobby Sanabria, Daniel Ponce); touring with Bebel Gilberto and David Byrne; writing and conducting on and off Broadway; and scoring and musical directing Nickelodeon’s “Dora the Explorer”. He rededicated himself to composing and playing the piano ten years ago. In 2017 he released “Alaya” (featuring violinist Zach Brock) on Artistshare, playing his own compositions, many of them inspired by classical works. “Live at the Soapbox Gallery” finds Steve leading a trio playing both standards and originals. This time the originals are part of his “Dream Music project”, begun during the pandemic, where he composes music inspired by his listeners’ dreams.
