Album Description

“Some Other Time” was written for the 1944 musical On the Town by Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The story, set during World War 2, is about three American sailors on a 24 hour shore leave in New York City. The Broadway show premiered at the Adelphi Theare in June 1944 and was directed by George Abbott, with choreography by Jerome Robbins. In 1949, MGM made a film version starring Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin, with Anne Miller, Vera Ellen and Betty Garrett providing the romantic interest. However, for the film version, the original songs by Bernstein, Comden and Green were ditched (except for "New York, New York") in favour of a new score by Roger Edens.
