Album Description

"On The Edge" is a work deeply rooted in the language of the jazz tradition but constantly projected towards new expressive possibilities. The music moves in a subtle balance between memory and transformation, showing how the repertoire of the great composers and the legacy of the masters still preserve an extraordinary creative vitality today. Far from being a simple nostalgic tribute, the album looks at this tradition as a living and fertile space, capable of continuously generating new forms, directions and soundscapes. The songs, arranged by the group, become open ground for interaction, spaces in which writing continuously leaves room for freedom, mutual listening and the possibility of creating something new every time.

The quartet - Mattia Basilico, Alessio Pagliero, Carlo Bavetta and Bernardo Guerra - develops a deep and spontaneous interplay, based on a shared musical vision and on a common way of living and breathing music. Each musician brings with him a precise sound identity, his own sound, his own attitude and sensitivity, elements that mitigated generate the essence of the group. It is precisely in the encounter between these individualities that the album finds its voice: a music that lives on dynamics, that is built in the moment and seeks risk, that continuously seeks new directions through listening, interaction and breathing and often transforms itself in front of those who listen to it.
At the base of the project there is also a deep bond with the artists who have marked the musical path of the entire group and in particular of Mattia Basilico. The spirit of musicians such as John Coltrane, Eddie Harris and Thelonious Monk runs through the album as a living presence: not as a stylistic imitation, but as a creative impulse, as an example of courage, expressive freedom and continuous research. "On The Edge" thus wants to bring out the voice of this group and the individual individuals who compose it. It is a beginning and a push to go far, always remembering where we came from.
