Album Description
French songwriter Marion Rampal's sixth album focuses on her mother tongue, by way of the poetry of French-speaking America (Acadian, Créole, Cajun...). Oizel's eleven moving and intriguing songs soar between jazz and folk, evoking the soundscapes of Daniel Lanois and Patrick Watson, or the refined, ageless melodies of Joni Mitchell. Produced and written in collaboration with guitarist Matthis Pascaud (Moonlight Benjamin, Hugh Coltman), the album features emblematic musicians from the French jazz-folk scene such as Raphaël Chassin, Simon Tailleu, Gaël Rakotondrabe and Christophe Panzani, as well as two French voices from the chanson scene: Bertrand Belin and Laura Cahen. From their earliest traditional forms, folk songs have often dealt with the theme of birds. Strange companions of grace or misfortune, witnesses of love or solitude, and marvels of the sensible world through their song or plumage, birds are also the symbol of a radical and natural freedom that Marion Rampal evokes here.
