Album Description

New Places, Old Faces is based on my experience as a new resident of New York City. While listening, you will find moments of tranquility, excitement, anxiety, and hope.

Transfers To The 1 is inspired by the driving energy that NYC has. The NYC Subway system is a fuse that lights the city's fire. It is a place where so many people of different backgrounds cross paths with one another, creating something that is uniquely New York.

Lullaby For The Little Prince is based on the French book Le Petit Prince: a story that I found comfort in as a child. The melodies are in search of greater things, communion between the Tenor Saxophone and Trombone, and harmony that sounds nostalgic yet new.

Day In The Life is similarly inspired as Transfers To The 1, in which I hoped to mimic the experience of a rookie in NYC. The direct groove resembles the constant motion of NYC while all its chaos happens above the surface.

What Hope We Had is inspired by the hope that many people had for the future. It is up to our generation to keep the flame of hope alive.

Cyclone, derived from the rollercoaster at Coney Island, showcases the victory of surviving the twists and turns of its track. The duration of the melody encapsulates the climb up to the peak of the Cyclone, while the solos and concluding melody narrate the experience of riding the rollercoaster.

Two Steps Ahead is representative of the moment I finally began to gain traction, and ride the wave of this busy place. It is when I learned that in order to feel stable in NYC, you have to be Two Steps Ahead.

Blues is a bonus track only available on CD and Vinyl!

Thank you Juilliard for funding the majority of this project, to the musicians and engineers who contributed their input, and to my family for supporting my move to NYC along with all of my musical endeavors.
