Album Description

Live at Mackenzie Hall Jazz is the debut release from trumpeter, composer, and arranger Austin Di Pietro. Recorded before a live audience at Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre during the Port Windsor Jazz & Arts Festival, the album captures the energy and spontaneity of a cross-border ensemble bringing original music to life in real time.

Led by Di Pietro and performed by musicians from both sides of the Windsor–Detroit border, the recording reflects a region shaped by both separation and connection. At a time when international boundaries dominate the news, Live at Mackenzie Hall Jazz offers a different perspective: one where music moves freely across borders and collaboration becomes its own form of dialogue.

Grounded in the jazz tradition while embracing contemporary influences, the album features six original compositions alongside interpretations of the popular jazz standards If I Had You, and All My Love–-a composition by the late trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, a towering figure in Detroit jazz whose influence continues to shape generations of musicians throughout the region. Recorded live-off-the-floor with minimal editing, the project documents a specific moment in the evolution of both Di Pietro’s artistic voice and the Borderland Ensemble.
