Album Description
The title of this album refers to a piece by Barry Harris – a master whose work and teaching have shaped me the most. I first encountered “Like This!” on the album Luminescence! in its instrumental version. The real discovery, however, came during workshops with Barry, when I heard this piece together with the words written by Ellen Martin. Their meaning – an encouragement not to overanalyze, to lift your head, to spread your wings and try again – became, for me, a surprisingly personal compass.
This album matured during a time of confronting loss, in the shadow of health challenges, but also in the light of a return to life, the experience of love, and transformation. In that process, “Like This!” became not just a quote but an attitude: a daily decision to choose movement over stagnation, curiosity over fear, gratitude over bitterness. Music – even the most demanding – can become the simplest form of solace: a reminder that you can take a breath and try once more.
The deepest joy of this project is understanding without many words. My heartfelt thanks to my friends in the trio – Wojtek and Michał – for their devotion to music, sensitivity, and the courage to search together. For me, your playing is a space of trust – a place where I can fully be myself in music, in improvisation. Thank you, Judyta, for joining us and recording “This Could Be the Start of Something Big” – for your never ‑ending enthusiasm, your love of swing, and your unmistakable style.
If this album brings you even a brief feeling of lightness – that moment when thoughts become clearer and the body a little lighter – it will mean it has fulfilled its purpose. And if it also gives you the courage to take the next step – like this – that will be the most beautiful response I could receive.
