Album Description
Komorebi is the debut album by Leeds-based composer and pianist Sylvie Natsume. The music is inspired by the beauty of nature and the fleeting moments within it.
The title refers to the Japanese word komorebi, describing sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees — a transient, delicate phenomenon that the music seeks to capture through sound.
Written for piano, bass and drums trio, the compositions explore spacious textures, lyric melodies and emotional expression, balancing structured writing with improvisation.
As a composer and film music producer, Sylvie approaches the project as an exploration of how the same compositional concept can be translated into different musical contexts. Besides this trio recording, the same material has also been explored in a concert for string quartet and piano, reimagining the music in a different setting.
