Album Description

Featuring world-class musicians from across the United States, guitarist and composer Kai Lance’s new release brings forth a new musical vision. Kai’s distinctive compositional and improvisational language draws on his deep love for groove, blues, and the jazz tradition. “It’s Time” includes six of Kai’s original compositions as well the Otis Rush slow blues, Double Trouble. The album features Aviana Gedler on vocals, Shota Renwick on tenor sax, Mark Tipton on trumpet, Aaron Gross on bass, Kassem Williams on drums, as well as Mark Wells playing Hammond organ on one track.

What began in the Northeast with the core horn/vocal section playing shows and working on material over the course of a year culminated in a magical two-day recording session at Overdub Lane in Durham, North Carolina in June, 2025. The six original compositions are instrumental and feature Gedler’s voice as part of the horn section with Tipton and Renwick as opposed to as a vocal soloist. This unique texture is an integral ingredient of the sound of the Kai Lance Group. Tight grooves, entrancing solos, blues-drenched guitar playing, spontaneous improvisation, and distinctive songwriting are just a few of the elements listeners will discover when experiencing “It’s Time.”

The album was engineered and produced by Andre Bruni, Thom Canova, and Cyril Lance. Mixing and mastering were by Grammy-nominated engineer Jason Richmond. Album art was designed by Isabel Griffin.

The Kai Lance Group will reunite for a full-band album release performance at the Sharp 9 Gallery, in Durham, NC on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with full digital release on February 15, 2026. In addition to being available digitally,the recording is also being pressed on vinyl by Smashed Plastic in Chicago, and CD’s will be available as well.
