A new name to those who have not seen her performing in Southern Arizona jazz clubs or in New York productions, Liz Cracchiolo shows on her debut jazz recording I’m A Woman that she is a major up-and-coming jazz singer.
Liz Cracchiolo’s alluring voice, powerful singing, and memorable style which balances precision with a spontaneous spirit, is not something that can be easily forgotten.
On I’m A Woman, the vocalist creates fresh and lively versions of standards and familiar pop tunes with an impressive supporting cast. The opener, “Just A Girl,” is filled with a carefree abandon as she weaves lines around guitarist Hajime Yoshida (and vice versa), often singing wordlessly. “These Boots Were Made For Walkin’,” which co-stars altoist Erica von Kleist, is given a wild ride that will not remind one of Nancy Sinatra’s famous version. “Sweet Child O’ Mine” casts Liz Cracchiolo quite effectively as a lowdown blues singer and she stretches “Fever” (with the assistance of bassist Russell Hall) far beyond what Peggy Lee might have imagined.
Other performances include the tango “Mr. Brightside,” a collaboration with singer-trumpeter Benny Benack III on “I’m Beginning To See The Light,” “Tainted Love” which is given a rendition that is both swinging and soulful, a rambunctious version of “Basin Street Blues” with Benack, and an assertive and forceful “I’m A Woman.” No matter the style or mood, the singer makes each song her own.
Liz Cracchiolo, who is based in Tucson, Arizona, is sometimes known as “The Bombshell Next Door.” She studied Musical Theatre at the University of Arizona and had an award-winning stage career including working in productions of Closer Than Ever, Les Misérables, The Producers, Mamma Mia, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch plus two cabaret shows in New York: If Only I Were Taller and I Do Men. Since those successes, she has dedicated herself to singing jazz, appearing at the Tucson Jazz Festival, as a featured vocalist with the Tucson Pops Orchestra, and at jazz clubs.
I’m A Woman is one of the most impressive debut albums of 2026. Its release will certainly make Liz Cracchiolo a force to bereckoned with in the jazz world.
