Album Description
Flutopia is a dynamic and soulful jazz album from Detroit-born Deblon Jackson, a veteran flautist whose music blends rich melodic expression with deep rhythmic feel. Released in January 2025, the project was written, produced, and arranged by Jerald Daemyon, giving the record a modern smooth-jazz sensibility grounded in jazz tradition and groove.
Jackson’s flute—warm, articulate, and full of life—leads the listener through Flutopia’s rich musical landscape over ten tracks that explore mood, movement, and melodic storytelling. At the heart of the album is its title track “Flutopia,” a joyful, mid-tempo opener featuring interplay between Jackson’s flute, Daemyon’s keyboards, and Stanley Cooper’s guitar. From there, the album moves through smooth grooves like “Hypnotic” featuring Daemyon on the violin and the Latin-inflected “Mozambique” featuring Kevin Levi on saxophone, balancing accessible rhythms with inventive solos.
The lineup of featured artists deepens the album’s instrumental palette:
-
Jerald Daemyon — violin, keyboards and driving musical architect behind the sound.
-
Stanley Cooper — jazz guitarist whose fluid lines complement Jackson’s flute on several tracks.
-
Kevin Levi — contemporary jazz saxophonist adding vibrant melodic colors, particularly on “Mozambique.”
-
Additional collaborators appear across the record, including contributions on bass, rhythm, and horns that reinforce the album’s blend of smooth-jazz sophistication and spirited improvisation.
Standout moments include “Hot Like The Sun,” a breezy tune full of vibrant energy; the relaxed groove of “Cruisin’”;and “Night Search,” a reflective closer that finds Jackson weaving expressive motifs over Daemyon’s atmospheric production.
Together, Jackson and Daemyon have crafted Flutopia as a showcase for expressive flute artistry, memorable grooves, and collaborative creativity—an album that invites both longtime jazz listeners and new fans into a world shaped by melody, heart, and musical exploration.
