Album Description

An active and well-respected jazz artist and educator in the Pittsburgh community, Don Aliquo, Sr. has shared the stage with Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Mel Tormé, Johnny Mathis and Woody Herman. On Fathers and Sons, Aliquo joins his son, esteemed sax player, Don Aliquo, Jr. (and a number of other Pittsburgh father and sons) to record this celebration of jazz born and bred in Pittsburgh. The Johnson, DeFade, Benack, Ashby and DePaolis families heard on Fathers and Sons represent a Pittsburgh jazz legacy deeply rooted. Each Father’s and Son’s enthusiasm and inspired playing adds joy camaraderie to the project. "Saxophonist Don Aliquo, Jr. has been described as a player with an articulate flow of always surprising ideas, sophisticated with a dexterous technique and an incredibly smooth tenor sound that seduces rather than shouts. Although his early influences are saxophonists John Coltrane, Stanley Turrentine and Dexter Gordon, his recent recorded output also displays the influences of Lester Young, Stan Getz and Joe Henderson as well. - Republic of Jazz
