Album Description

Every Little Bit Hurts is the latest project by pop/jazz flutist Bradley Leighton.  This EP is a light collection of pop and jazz singles all with a funky flair and impeccably styled by this great master flutist.

The title cut, "Every Little Bit Hurts” is a cover version of the 1964 Motown hit by the same name.  This was the first of several hits by the young singer, Brenda Holloway.  Bradley's version stays close to the origin's soulful groove and vibe with an emphasis on keeping close to Holloway's elegant melodic line.

"Easy Greasy" is a rhythmic, easy-going tune that was written and recorded in 1996 by "Deems Tsutakawa and Seattle Groove.”  An integral part of Seattle Groove, Leighton was featured prominently on several early "Groove" projects including this first one.  For this version of the tune substantial changes were made to the rhythm bed to bring it up to date with current standards and brought the flute more to the forefront where it's prominently featured throughout the tune.

Another remake from the Seattle Groove CD is entitled "Splabb.”  Here is a definite throw-back groove originally intended to be a 70's tribute tune.  Hard driving rhythm with a simple, effective melody - this is a solo vehicle intended to show off the creative, funky flute licks of Leighton in one of his favorite formats.

“Easy Morning” is a tune Leighton co-wrote with his longtime friend and mentor Ronald Igarta (Dec. 2003) sometime in the late 1980's.  Amazingly, this tune was changed very little from the original which is a tribute to Ronnie's incredible skills as a pianist and arranger.  This slow rock ballad is a beautiful tune inspired by the sound and beauty of Long Beach, Washington and the great times they had there.

"Every Little Bit Hurts" (vocal version) is a remix of the instrumental version featuring Paula Prophet in the lead role.  Paula is truly a “prophet” by spreading the passion of music through her voice that has the power to awaken the spirit. From the first note of her clear, fervent sound it is easy to become a believer in this soulful messenger.
