keyboardsAlbum Description
'Dot Line Dot' is a collection of live improvisations performed with a synthesizer and the 'Mobius' software, inspired by the work of the father of minimalist music, Terry Riley, best known as a pioneer of the minimalist school of composition. Influenced by jazz and Indian classical music, his work became notable for its innovative use of repetition, tape music techniques, improvisation, and a tape delay system that allows sounds played by the instrument to be overlaid over time. This technique has been defined as 'Time Lag Accumulator.' His most famous works are the 1964 composition In C and the 1969 album A Rainbow in Curved Air, both considered landmarks of minimalism and significant influences on experimental music, rock, and contemporary electronic music. Personally, I have always felt in Riley's repetitive approach an intense meditative capacity and a sense of impermanence that led me to explore firsthand the use of this technique, losing myself in the 'stasis' induced by repetition/variation. Inevitably, this album is therefore a tribute to the work of Terry Riley. In 2015, I spent many consecutive hours exploring this technique, using from 2 to 4 tracks of different lengths in which insert/replace quarter, eighths, and/or sixteenths notes. From this process emerged unexpected and polymetric musical forms. Recently, I have extracted from those old sessions the tracks presented here in 'Dot Line Dot,' exactly as they were performed, preserving their "lo-fi" quality and charm.
